As I Lay Dying "Forsaken"

This is my favorite As I Lay Dying song. With the guitar rifs, gallops and double bass on the drums, the screamer singer and the raw energy that these men procure, makes it a really beautiful sound to listen to. Parts of it are extremely heavy but to me, those parts make the softer one's that much more gorgeous. I think the meaning and I guess theme behind this song is forgiveness and regret. The lyrics talk about how they condemned this person from their life for their own selfish reasons and how they now regret doing so. I believe through the song, the band is asking for forgiveness. Enjoy :)

Lyrics:
I've looked straight into your eyes
And turned my head for the last time
Because I was scared to leave these walls in ruin
Like the fate of those who trust in themselves

We are alone and afraid

I know you are the one we left behind
Yet somehow we are the ones who are alone
you are the one we left behind
you are the one we left be...

I will no longer turn my head
I will never forget you
You are the one we left behind
You are the forsaken

We've built our confidence
On broken dreams now left for dead
Yet we've been condemned
To chase these dreams that never end

I know you are the one we left behind
Yet somehow we are the ones who are alone
you are the one we left behind
you are the one we left be...

Our selfishness consumes us
Until the whole world is not enough
Forgive the day that I erased your name
that I erased your name
For it's the memory of me that will decay

I know you are the forsaken
Yet somehow we are the ones who feel alone
I know you are the forsaken
Yet somehow we are the ones who feel alone

The Devil Wears Prada "Dead Throne" Link

The Devil Wears Prada "Dead Throne"

This song is definitely one of their heavier ones, but the lyrics are so powerful, so of course its going to need a heavier sound. To me, the lyrics speak to the listener and I feel the message in this song is about the idea of putting up your heroes or idols that you worship, onto a throne in your mind and heart. They probably aren't meant to be up there, and they probably won't stay up there long, but the idea behind it is that we make kings out of the things that shouldn't be made kings. Does that make sense?. I hope so. Enjoy :)

Lyrics:

What you hold dear is a false account.
What you hold dear offers no salvation. (salvation)
Trust in that I’m not right for this. (for this)
Know that I’m not the one to hold you up. (hold you up)
I can’t hold you. I can’t hold you.

Dead throne (dead throne), we’ve put the world up onto a dead throne.
Dead throne (dead throne), we’ve put the world up onto a dead throne.

She will slip... slip away. You will see your downfall.

Dead throne (dead throne), we’ve put the world up onto a dead throne.
Dead throne, we’ve put the world onto a dead throne.

I am guilty, I have fallen: There are things that have come between you and me.
I’m so sorry (I’m so sorry): Let all be put to shame who serve carved images.

We’ve put the world on a dead throne. We’ve put the world on a dead throne.

Trivium - "Throes Of Perdition"

This song isn't as "heavy metal" as some of their other songs but I picked it because of the lyrics. The words they use are powerful beyond belief and also extremely descriptive. I can picture everything that they're talking about and with the music aspect thrown in I can feel it too. To me, the song is a power boost. It's saying, "You know, there will always be someone around to stab you in the back. In spite of that, be strong! Stand on your own two feet."  Please read the lyrics first and then listen to the song. Give it a chance! Enjoy :)

Lyrics:

Blind-folded and gagged, stood waiting
With the whole world: my firing squad
At the edge of the world I'm faced out
Staring the sun right in the eye

Vultures circle above, hyenas mocking the kill
Excrement drooling down their chins
Atop the cliffs I look down, into the starving Hell-mouth
The rabid foam crashes hard on it's teeth

Their mouths salivate
Fantasizing my gruesome ending
This world looks down upon
A man who can stand on his own two feet

As they're feeding their guns: "ready, aim"
They say I'll live, if I die for their cause
Living under the rule of fellow Cro-Magnon fool
They fear to look out to stay still
Their mouth's salivate
Fantasizing my gruesome ending
This world looks down upon
A man who can stand on his own two feet
(Without eating from their claws)

[CHORUS]
Life feels like Hell should
But this Hells so cold
Pull another knife out
Stick it with rest of them
When my back is full
Turn me around to face it

Such melancholy, burning the stars from skies
As we melt drowning inside their bloodied eyes
Hope is ravaged running from lacerations
Sob so heavily we choke then we die

Parkway Drive's "Karma"

These lyrics are not only insanely powerful, they're also beautifully hopeful. The combination of these wonderful words with the heavy rock is goosebump worthy. I thoroughly enjoy listening to this style of music so much more now that I know these lyrics are a part of it. Enjoy! :)

Parkway Drive : "Karma"

"Crashing to the surface.
My convictions lay bare before the tempest.
As chaos explodes around me, I find myself in the jaws of destruction.
Tested, by the force of the tempest.
Pushed, to the point of no return.
Losing ground.Let the steel of my resolve be not bested by the sum of my fears.
Clarity unfolds, a moments calm in the eye of the storm.
Relentless, I surge onward.
Surfacing.
No regrets.
No second chance.
Nothing will hold me back.
Shipwrecked bones carry my seasick heart home.
Carry me home."
